| Five Tips to SAVE BIG On Your Next Stage Set |

Gas prices are up, the dollar is weak, and you just aren’t seeing sales like you used to. Today’s economy poses a big challenge to any business, possibly even yours. So how can you produce a good show for less and keep your expenses in check? We show you how to keep your scenic production on time and in the black with these helpful tips from the experts at CDP:
Rent, Don’t Buy
In trying times it can be cost-prohibitive to sell your clients custom designs on a regular basis. Consider using rentals that are in stock and adapt well to fit a variety of designs. At CDP, we provide many versatile elements that can be presented in myriad ways to match your client’s aesthetic without requiring a costly custom build.
Go Pro
When times are tough, the first instinct can often be to cut labor to save money. Though the “do-it-yourself” approach can work for many things, it is often detrimental to the successful scenic production. A skilled project manager or supervisor can help you from beginning to end, making sure the project goes together on time and under budget. This saves you from the task of spending money at the last minute to redo the critical things that didn’t get done right. Also, with a seasoned project manager, you can put the liability for damage, loss, and repair on the scenic provider – protecting yourself with your contract and a damage waiver.
Have a Plan B
It’s no secret that clients are buying projects at the last minute. This can result in controlled chaos for any producer without much time to spare. Even when shows sell just weeks or days before load-in, you can still develop a contingency plan. A solid “Plan B” for your production can ensure that last minute changes or unavailability won’t derail your plan. Line up extra solutions on standby and negotiate discounted spares and backup systems with your vendors. Having the right fix at the right time will get your show up and make you look like a pro with your clients.
Rely on Your Partners
You pride yourself on being creative! Indeed your sharp eye and creative style are what make your business great. However, last minute shows are becoming the norm instead of the exception and so a brand-new, untested concept may not be the right path in this case. You need a partner that’s fast, easy and reliable to work with. Consider your most experienced vendors. Although they may not be the cheapest route they will usually provide you with products of greater value and save you the headaches of last minute out of pocket expenses in the end.
Travel Light
Shipping and freight is more expensive than ever before. With the costs of fuel rising daily, you can’t afford to ship heavy, cumbersome products across the country. Consider designing with fabrics, hollow-tube metals, and lightweight plastics. When you keep your deliveries light you and your clients save big. Kiss hardwall sets goodbye!

You don’t need a massive budget to produce a striking event. See how our clients creatively blended a few of our most popular modular structural systems to make their project a smash success! |

Blue Danube Productions
The amazing Nex System seems to been gaining popularity with our producers! We recently worked with Josh Hamon of Blue Danube Productions, a Seattle, Washington based company. Because of the Nex System’s versatility and 3D style Josh found that incorporating our Nex Panels into his wall display was the way to go. His placement of the 12’ framed fabric Triosks encapsulated the colorful display of Nex components lit by front and overhead spot illumination. At showtime logos were projected onto the Triosks for a complete branding effect. Nex Panels are available to rent in 2’ x 3’ sections and are versatile enough to produce podiums, kiosks, counters, columns and walls. Triosk panels also come in 8’, 10’ 14’ and 16’ heights. Thanks Josh for showcasing our Nex System and CDP products.

AGF Media Services
Cade Rhudy with AGF Media Services has done it again! Cade is one of our successful repeat customers who has turned our scenic set pieces into another graphic creation. This time he has incorporated our classic Cy-Tower Panels for his brandable wall structure that served as a perfect screen surround as well. As you can see the acrylic panels come in graphic, translucent or textured finishes and are easily interchangeable within the aluminum channels. The lighting capabilities are endless.
